Welcome to HealthyPups.com!             page 1 of 16

A great place to meet your next best friend!  Come discover why a good family pet is the best investment you can make, even in difficult financial times!  You may also  discover why a HealthyPup with a care standard no other area competitor offers is worth a short trip using expensive gasoline, because gas is still much cheaper than vet bills next week to deal with the parasites or health issues that are present in 50% of puppies for sale in the U.S., killing approximately 33% of them.  Every family must be entertained in some way.  A puppy is the ultimate value in family fun and entertainment...truly a great example of a gift that keeps on giving!  Compared to trips to the shopping mall, vacations, etc, a puppy is truly one of the cheapest ways to help entertain a family!

Because it is important that you love the puppy next year that you thought was cutest today AND that you know what to expect during your visit to see our pets, PLEASE do not call, email, or plan to visit us until AFTER you have taken the time to READ ALL the material on this website (Yes, I am also talking to those of you who think you already know what you want and that you already know it all)!  If you do not care enough about your pet experience that you are willing to take the time to read and be a responsible pet owner who is willing to learn about the pet before you buy it, please DO NOT buy a puppy from anyone, because they need permanent homes. Reading this material requires much less time and patience than training a puppy. Don't you want to be smarter than those people who want to just "come and look", and then have your entire decision to buy a pet be about an emotional response in thinking something is cute, an obsession regarding a specific issue, or about a past addiction? The important thing is that you are happy later!

The area's ONLY parvo/rabies virus (rabies is 100% fatal in humans who develop symptoms: rabies vaccines are not given puppies until 16 weeks of age) quarantine puppy nursery, providing fecal analysis and treatment for next weeks potential expensive veterinary problems minutes prior to the sale?  "We offer a better care standard to make sure your child's first puppy kiss is a safe one."  We are a private nursery that has sold pets at the same physical address since 1982.  We are not a pet store or animal broker who exists through selling pets raised by others that we really know nothing about.

I have learned through the years that 90% of those who will take the time to read the material on this website will decide they simply CAN'T AFFORD to chance buying a pet from anyone else, since no competitor offers pets with a care standard that  includes quarantine, fecal analysis minutes prior to sale with cryptosporidium-giardia- coccidia screening/treatment, mange/scabies prevention, or a vaccine specific schedule that includes Neopar .

Many buyers never educate themselves to the point that they develop the good judgment to appreciate a better care standard or the opportunity to learn about ownership issues to improve the chances that next year they will actually love the pet that they thought was cutest today. Many puppy buyers don't realize that in past years,  up to 30% of puppies that went home with new families in the U.S. died, most of which created broken hearts and huge vet bills after the family had fallen in love with them, and 50% went home in need of immediate expensive veterinary treatment.

Reading this material may improve your pet ownership experience.  Reading this material may also improve the chances that you avoid expensive vet or ownership bills or that your puppy is not sick or dying next week due to improper care standard prior to sale. These are pets for the educated buyer who wants healthier genetics and a better prior to sale care standard with no chance that your family will be among the hundreds of people who need rabies shots at $2000.00-4000.00 per person in N. C. alone this year to prevent the always fatal rabies virus from killing your family members beginning 2 weeks after exposure.  Most of these situations occur after potential indirect exposures between pets and wildlife.  Shots for humans become necessary to prevent potential sickness and death if rabid wildlife climbed on the cage and slobbered through the wire last night before you brought your new baby puppy home. Since puppies must be 16 weeks before rabies vaccine can be given,  and rabies in humans who develop symptoms is always fatal, all baby puppies should be raised in quarantine; not in an outdoor cage or in a home situation where the pups or their mother are allowed to roam freely in and out of the home without supervision.  A cage out back that's not critter proof or a pet owner allowing dogs outside to use the bathroom are not guaranteed safe situations. Ours are pets for the intelligent buyer who realizes that even one serious problem with the pets health can cost you much more next week in related issues at the vet than you paid to buy the puppy; and that the cheapest to buy puppy is very often not the cheapest puppy.

...for those who  want to know if the puppy is healthy BEFORE you take it home, and the family falls in love with a pet that may need expensive veterinary care for pre-existing health problems and parasites, we may have almost NO competition! At least 50% of puppies offered for sale to the public by pet owners with no technical skills have not been properly vaccinated or may have serious diseases and parasites. Up to 30% of puppies sold in the U.S. in years past have DIED, leaving the owner with broken heart and hundreds of dollars in vet bills. Yet most buyers will buy the cutest, cheapest to buy, or closest and easiest to see pet because they are unaware of needed care standard to prevent these issues from occurring.  Most family budgets simply cannot afford to not know what's growing in that puppy BEFORE you take it home!  Professionally raised USDA standard healthy PUPPIES for pet homes only! Are we the only place in the entire world where you can buy pups wholesale at a USDA standard indoor parvo/rabies quarantine puppy nursery receiving  in house fecal analysis and other veterinary technical care only minutes prior to sale? (Although some advertise "vet checked" puppies, you can't be sure that nothing has changed with the health of the pet if several days have passed since the examination.) Even if a competitor sells you a puppy with a written warranty of its health, YOU MUST PAY to get it vet checked.  YOU ALSO MUST PAY the vet bill to make it well in most cases after your family has fallen in love with it. Any serious problem at the vet next week can cost 3 times more than the purchase price of the puppy. Can you afford to go home with a pet that was raised by a pet owner with no technical skills or knowledge of a preventative care standard? A fecal smear and exam minutes prior to sale can potentially save you hundreds in surprise vet bills next week!

This website contains 16 pages, prices (p. 12), driving directions (p. 16), approximately 60 photos, plus answers to almost all of your questions! A list of currently available puppies is located on page 6.   Next page links are located at the bottom of every page.

The purpose of this website is not to insult, belittle, or talk down to anyone, but to promote responsible pet ownership. It is not my intent to seem grumpy in this material or to bash a breed that you may have already had a huge emotional response to in the way it looks,  but to help you choose a pet that you will actually love later.  PLEASE don't assume you already know everything! READ this material and learn from the ownership experiences of others! I almost never have anyone call to ask a question that is not already discussed on this site.  After 25 years experience in dealing with pet owners, I have learned that most people look at puppies, buy the cutest and cheapest one, and almost never think of ownership issues that are likely to occur later in the life of the pet.  A high percentage of visitors to this site look at the pictures and refuse to read the material.  These are the pet owners who are more likely to unknowingly spend $10,000.00 over the next 10 years in vet and haircut bills, choose a breed that's harder to housetrain, or one that is too small; and therefore more likely to die of liver/kidney disease at 2 years old.  The least intelligent person in the world is the one who thinks he already knows everything and is finished with learning.

For example, I am constantly bombarded by people asking "how much are your teacup Yorkies"?  After 25 years experience with pets, I think this is one of the least intelligent questions anyone ever asks.  In their first breath, they ask "how much" and indicate that they don't want to spend lots of money on a pet, yet they are attracted to a "teacup" size dog that may be too small to be consistently healthy (2 or 3 lbs is just too small. You should buy a Yorkie or other puppy that should grow at least to  5 lbs or larger as an adult)  and may have significant expensive size related health problems like allergies and diabetes, or potentially even liver/kidney failure at 3 years old.  Even if there are no health problems, they are faced with the potential of spending enough money on expenses related to long coat to buy a new car over the life of the dog.  They only think of holding the dog and carrying it around,  and not the inconvenience of having a handicapped pet that also requires assistance at your inconvenience.  They also never think of short lifespan and health problems, only the pleasures of carrying and holding a small pet, so they want the tiniest one.  Because I feel that pet owners deserve to have a healthier pet with intelligence enough to house train that loves the family including children, (too much line breeding by show enthusiasts has occurred within some bloodlines of the Yorkshire Terrier and has caused too many of these to lack intelligence) we  recommend Yorkie hybrids over purebreds, some of which are as much as 75% Yorkie and look very much like purebreds. We do raise a few purebred Yorkies, however.   Pet owners are all about cuteness, but I have learned that purebred Yorkies are a pet that some families are not happy with later because of housetraining difficulty and size related health issues in some of the smaller specimens. Yorkies are thought by many to be the cutest dog in the world.  Most childish pet buyers will buy the cutest puppy no matter what.  This is why the average cost of owning a dog in the U. S. is estimated to be more than $13,500.00 over the lifespan of a pet, and this is also why so many pet owners complain later that they failed to or had great difficulty house training their pet.

Above left: Puggle puppy!  Above right:  Chocolate/white Rat Terrier puppies!  Both of these are good examples of practical, affordable, intelligent, naturally healthy, easy and cheap to care for, fun pets! Rat Terriers interact at a higher level than most other breeds.  Most long-time owners feel that this is the most intelligent breed. I have sold a Rat Terrier to a deaf couple who have taught their dog sign language.  This pet responds to many different hand signals, and will go hide under the bed when Mom makes the sign for "bath"!

*Why are ours some of the world's best AND cheapest pups? *All pups receive up to 4 different vaccines, beginning with Neopar  parvo virus vaccine, at 4-5 wks, by 8 wks of age. They get ivermectin to prevent demodex mites, intestinal parasites, and scabies mites (which are transmissable to humans- cause rash and severe itching), and marquis anti-protozoal paste to prevent coccidia and giardia (transmissable to humans- causes upset stomach). They also get prior to sale microscopic fecal examinations, including cryptosporidium screening (this is really common in area pets and is often misdiagnosed as parvo virus by area veterinary doctors who often don't know how to identify cryptosporidium spores), and are sold with a written health warranty. All veterinary doctors and technical people are welcome to visit here or just call for advice if you would like to learn more about my research regarding cryptosporidium and identification of spores in fecal analysis. Ours are likely the only pets in the world to receive cryptosporidium screening and needed preventative treatment prior to the sale.

Because 90% of pups are raised by people with no knowledge of veterinary technical skills in unsterilizable (home, backyard, barn) environments and NOT VACCINATED THE WAY WE DO IT, almost all small pups have an improperly developed immune system that will allow them to get sick should an insect land on their nose carrying a virus from next door.  (When many dog breeders say "they've had their shots", this often means they've been given 1 vaccine: in some cases a $6.95 special from the feed and seed store. Too little, too late, and not likely to protect against an accidental direct exposure to parvo virus at an early age).  70%(?) of pups need to go to the vet for parasite removal at time of purchase. RESULT? Up to 30%(?)of pups raised by pet owners in non-USDA standard environments in past years have died, leaving owners with expensive vet bills. 70%(?) had intestinal or other parasites that made them sick and cost hundreds in vet bills and premise sterilization after the sale! Many may already have liver damage because they may have been kept on sulfa drugs constantly to rid them of coccidia present in these dirty surroundings. This is why free or cheap pups are often NOT the cheapest pet! The world is full of back room puppy millers who want to make money selling pups without spending the money to build an acceptable care facility or spending money for proper vet care. If someone offers to sell you a pup for less than the vet care should have cost, you can be sure that it wasn't cared for the way we do it! How much would it cost you to take a pup to the vet for the vaccines and veterinary care our pups receive through 8 weeks? The cheapest advertised pups with the improperly developed immune system are the ones that often die and leave $500.00+ vet bills and the need to clorox the home. Regardless of your location, ONE short drive to visit us can be easier and cheaper than many vet visits later! You should also be aware that con artists are preying upon puppy buyers in a variety of ways.  You should be careful not to fall for the scams of many who don't even have pets to sell.  We have sold hundreds of pets at this location since 1982 with happy customers and with almost no parvo losses. Would you allow an auto mechanic with no surgical skills to perform surgery on you? Then why would you buy a puppy from someone with no microscope who really doesn't know how to care for it and who wasn't willing to spend the money to provide a facility in which to care for it and keep it healthy?*

Our facility has in the past been licensed and inspected as a licensed dealer care facility. We are also inspected by Animal Control, local veterinarians, and Humane Society volunteers. Volunteer persons for reference, which include pet owners, local licensed veterinary doctors and technical people who constantly see our pets in their practices, law enforcement officers, and an officer of our local humane society, are posted on page 15. The licensed vets and legislators who wrote the Animal Welfare Act years ago knew that it is impossible to sterilize the home, backyard, or barnyard environment and that it's almost impossible to get rid of disease in those environments once animals and their surroundings become infested. They also knew that people who raise puppies in the backyard or in cages outdoors can't be sure that a raccoon or skunk with rabies didn't slobber through the wire last night before selling the pup to you! This is why it is AGAINST THE LAW for people without a USDA license to sell to pet stores. Although your home is likely a safe place for your pup, vets and lawmakers thought the pups raised by pet owners in homes, backyards, and barns were not healthy enough for retail sale, yet buyers looking for the cheapest pup are dumb enough to buy from them! I talked to someone last week who bought a puppy from an entire litter that had rabies. Don't you deserve better?  Several days ago I had someone drive for 2 hours to reserve one of our beagles after his neighbor had tried to give him one for free.  I learned that he had gotten scabies as a child years ago from a free puppy that his father had brought home that had been raised in the back yard.  He claimed the experience was worse than being covered from head to toe with poison oak and the worst thing he had ever been through.  Although pets raised indoors are less likely to have this happen, ivermectin given periodically is the only sure way to prevent it. (This should not make you hesitant to buy a pet, because scabies almost never occurs in properly cared for adult dogs, since heart  worm preventatives contain ivermectin.) This is primarily an issue for puppies too young to be given heart worm preventatives.   *Most of the breeds that we offer (except our smaller Chihuahuas) are the correct size to be healthy, climb the stairs without assistance and, unlike the smallest (3 Ib.) breeds, are not likely to get diabetes or have allergy problems requiring shots and medications. This can save you $5000.00+ in shots & pills over the next 10 years! *Most of our breeds have short hair. This can save you enough haircut and maintenance money over the next 10 years to buy a nice used car and reduce fleas and ticks brought into the home by the pet!!! *Most of the breeds that we offer almost never have disagreeable personalities and everyone loves them! This lessens the chance that your puppy will grow up to be aggressive with the kids or with the neighbor's dog so you'll like him later! * I have 25 years experience in taking the calls of people like you who are looking for a new pet; many of which have had negative experiences with their past pet. The opportunity to talk to me and learn from the experiences of thousands of pet owners means that you can use these experiences to make an intelligent choice! Owners are much more likely to have specific problems with certain breeds. Buying a pet with unhealthy genetics just because your neighbor has one that you think is cute is like marrying someone with a fatal disease. There are other considerations other than your attraction to the way it looks! The next 16 pages of this website contain 50+ photos and much information. To fall in love and make a friend is PRICELESS!!!

This website is dedicated to teaching you about the pets BEFORE you buy so you can be a satisfied pet owner rather than another unsuspecting VICTIM of your own emotions who spends $100O.OO per year to care for the pet you thought was cutest or a pet owner who hates his dog and wants to give it away later or send it to the shelter!

Will You soon be a victim? Were you a victim with your last pet and still addicted to a pet that wasn't your best choice? If you don't want to spend lots of money on a pet, yet you think pets with issues are cute, you may already be a victim or are destined to become one!

If you find that we don't raise the small breed pet that you think you want, there's a good chance that I think your desired breed is not a smart choice. Please CALL me with your questions. Many of your emails contain viruses and are discarded by my isp's mail filter and can't be opened.
